| Jesus College, Cambridge was founded in 1496, and it originally consisted of buildings taken over from the nunnery of St Mary
and St Radegund: namely the chapel, and the cloister attached to it; the nuns' refectory, which became the college hall; and
the former lodging of the prioress, which became the Master's Lodge. This set of buildings remains the core of the college
to this day, and this accounts for its distinctly monastic and non-collegiate character, which sets it apart from all the
other Cambridge colleges.
Alex Perkins' account of the history of Jesus College Cambridge recounts its foundation on the site of the twelfth-century Benedictine nunnery
of St Mary and St Radegund through to the appointment of Professor Robert Mair, Fellow of St John's and Professor of Geotechnical
Engineering, to the post of Master of Jesus in March 2001. |
The College has been running an Alumni Who's Who, In Touch Online, since April 2002. The system consists of basic Who's Who functionality, with the bulletin boards module. Old Jesuans can
update their entry in the College's paper-based Who's Who in addition to refreshing their other details and rediscovering
old friends. The server runs on Windows 2000 against a local SQL Server. Jesus College use the AppealMaster synchronisation
tool to merge updates into their internal development database.
Richard Dennis (Development Director), Juliet Banfield (Development Officer) and Terrie McCann (Development Office Assistant)
look after Jesuans. Contact details for references can be found here. Technical references should be addressed to the IT department: contact details. |
